Barnard Castle is a town in Teesdale, County Durham, England named after the castle around which it grew up. Full of fascinating old shops and a wonderful centre for antique collectors. In the town is the magnificent The Bowes Museum with internationally famous collections, including works by Goya, El Greco and Canaletto. There are beautiful gardens here, and at Eggleston Hall and ancient Raby Castle. Nearby Cockfield is the birthplace of Jeremiah Dixon, surveyor of the Mason-Dixon Line in North America.
