Lancashire Local information |
| |
Lancashire is a non-metropolitan county of historic derivation in the North West of England, bounded to the west by the Irish Sea. It contains possessions such as the Forest of Bowland and the charming Ribble and Lune Valleys. The County also has nature treasury and several country parks with way marked routes. It is steeped in history, and this can be seen in many of the visitor attractions and places to visit across the County. Industrial heritage has played a major role in the development of the County's museums and historic houses, but the historic content has been contemporized through re-enactments and interactive exhibits. It has been linked with a number of high profile people and events throughout the ages; the Pendle Witches, J R Tolkien and Shakespeare have all left their mark on this mesmerizing area. It can be found in one of England's favorites holiday resorts Blackpool, still enjoyed by thousands of visitors every year for its long sandy beach, and attractions such as Blackpool Tower and Blackpool Sea Life Centre. Away from the seashore there are walks to Anchorsholme, four miles to the north. The delightful 300-acre Stanley Park, has formal gardens, a boating lake and fountains. For a touch of culture visit Grundy Art Gallery in Queen Street. In order to provide a wideness of activity for Lancashire residents and visitors, many boroughs organize special events and festivals throughout the year. These range from Maritime Festivals to Motorbike Shows. |
