Salford is a city in Greater Manchester, England. It was historically a part of Lancashire and early history is marked by its status as the judicial seat of the ancient hundred of Salfordshire, by which it gots the name. Salford Cathedral is one of the larger Catholic cathedrals in northern England and Salford Lads Club is a recreational club located in Ordsall and Ordsall Hall is a historic house and a former stately home in Ordsall. Salford is the home of the world's first free public library, and was the birthplace of the modern vegetarian movement, and the city today is a centre of higher education, being the location of the University of Salford.
