The County of Shropshire is situated on the England. First time visitors are always surprised at just how much there is to see and do in the county! The Shropshire Hills Area of exceptional Natural Beauty covers about a quarter of the county, mainly in the south. It has over 90 places to visit, from Offa's Dyke, the longest archaeological memorial in Britain, built by King Offa in the 8th Century to keep the Welsh Princes at bay, to historic houses and castles, beautiful gardens, and the famous Ironbridge Gorge Museums. Shropshire towns are also part of this rich embroidery. Shrewsbury, birthplace of Charles Darwin, is the county town. Explore the medieval paved streets, water's edge walks and the outstanding Abbey Church, renown as the home of the imaginary Brother Cadfael. |
